Sausan makes the VERY best of it!

Baklava is a Mediterranean dessert made with Phyllo dough, nuts, butter, sugar, and spices.  A sweet simple syrup flavored with lemon juice and orange blossom water is poured over the pastry immediately after taking it out of the oven while it's still hot allowing the syrup to be absorbed into it crunchy layers.

Since 1999, Al-Masri Egyptian Restaurant has been making and serving baklava to its diners.  But before that it was sold in such stores as Whole Foods.  With such a delicious recipe, customers come in just for the baklava!

Bitchin' Baklava is especially noteworthy, delicious, and amazing because it contains top grade nuts, dried fruits, and other innovative fillings.  The highest quality area-sourced nuts, dried and/or candied fruits, and other fillings as well as Grade AA butter are used to make this mouth-watering pastry.  And, we make our own simple syrup in-house for our baklava!  Our varieties are endless. THE HISTORY

HEALTH BENEFITS

Baklava boasts many health benefits as a pastry; Unlike so many other desserts, it is not just full of empty calories.  Nuts are filled with nutrition, and are naturally cholesterol free.  Although nuts are high in fat, this fat is mostly unsaturated, which has a beneficial effect on health.

Many ethnic groups claim baklava as their own.  But there is strong evidence that its current form was developed in the imperial kitchens of the Topkapi Palace based on a Central Asian Turkic tradition of layered breads.

The word "phyllo" comes from the the Greek word meaning "leaf", or being "as thin as a leaf."  The thickness -- or the thinness -- of Phyllo gives baklava its delicious crunchy texture.  However, the history of baklava comes from farther East.

Baklava was once baked only on special occasions, usually by the rich who could afford such a luxury.  A poor man of that time would to exclaim, "I am not rich enough to eat baklava in my house."  Today, anyone can easily order baklava anytime, from layman to millionaire.

While the history of baklava may have changed with the history of the land, it is still known as baklava.  Its variety of recipies, from the Near East,

Armenia, and Turkey to Greece and the

Grecian Empire, baklava is a favorite of many.

Various countries offer tasty variations and have loyal followings  and we, at Bitchin' Baklava, are no

different.  As colorful as the history of the lands

of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, Bitchin' Bakava now takes on that tradition with new and unique and innovative fillings a flavors.  Get yours today!
